It’s more important to be clever and creative there are references to literature, mythology, and popular culture, and a lot can be acquired with just plain common sense.īecause of the exponentially branching choices, two people playing the game at the same time will end up with entirely different catalogs of items. Consider the fundamental nature of the item you are working with and try combinations that would enhance, improve, or otherwise effect its fundamental nature. Don’t worry about knowing a bunch of science because the alchemy stops being strictly scientific very early in the game. Then, as you match up items, if one turns into yet another new thing, won’t have to go back and find it again. When you have a group of three to five new items, line them up in your workspace and double tap to make two of them. If you make something that is a combination of a conceptual item (like “idea” or “philosophy”) and a concrete thing you could hold in your hand, then you know to keep combining that conceptual item with other concrete things to produce more.
The items grouped together in these categories are in fact hints on how to produce more in that category. On the Items tab in the encyclopedia, you’ll see a growing list of categories that contain your items. The descriptions are almost like little riddles that will you ideas on what to combine further. After you’ve made your new items, go into the encyclopedia and read the profiles carefully. If an item is “final,” it will disappear from your workspace, which means it will not yield a new item when combined with another. First, combine the new item with itself, and if it produces something new, continue combining each new thing with itself until you can’t go any further down that line.
